1924 TS 2 3/4 rim size

After the correct rim and tyre size for a 1924 ts 2 3/4 hp. I have been given many different sizes but I still do not know which is the correct size for this model. Hoping for help on this problem.  Conrad.

Conrad , The correct size for the TS is 26x2 1/2 Graeme can give you  with the address to purchase from the Vintage Motor Cycle Club NSW who sell them for the very reasonable price around $60 maybe more for non members you will have to buy 2.75 x 21 tubes from you local bike shop. Dont be daunted when you try to fit you may have to put in the sun several times and stretch them like hell to eventually roll them on the rims. Hope this helps.  regards Al   PS I did mean the tyres are around 60 the club rims are not the Doug profile.   Extra PS took the liberty of asking Dave to post your pics I am sure they are of much value to other viewers it also confirms the wheel size as for Dougs the raised spoke rib mainly only happens on the 26x2and 1/2 for beaded edge rims.

I also found that the downhill racing tubes for mountain bikes are great - very strong - they come in 26 * 2 1/2

  Sir. Your TS 2 3/4hp has the carburettor fitted. This carburettor matches one on a TS that I am restoring but I have no knowledge as to its make or model. No makers name on my unit. Do you know who made it ? Regards Bill Jonker

Hi Bill,

The carby on this bike is an AMAC (Aston Motor Accessories Co.). There are a number of varieties fitted to the 2 3/4 over the years, most made specially for Douglas. The double lever on the bars is also AMAC.

On the tyre issue, I've resolved to stop using rickshaw/handcart tyres as I use up the stock that I have. The Ensign beaded edge tyres come with all the proper stuff for a motorcycle tyre, like a speed rating. On the downside, they are selling at $A150-ish I think. My preferred tube is a Michelin Heavy Duty 2.50-3.00 - 21, again expensive at about $A30, but a flat tyre on a bike with beaded-edge tyres can be a disaster as there is nothing to hold the tyre on the rim when it goes flat. (There is also a super heavy duty Michelin tube, but it comes in a box the size of a shoe box!)

Rim size: Believe it or not, 26 x 2 1/2 rims come in a range of sizes. By the 1920s most were 22 1/4 to 22 1/2" overall diameter, and about 2 - 2 1/4" wide, Westwood pattern (drop centre), and 40 holes for Douglas.

Beware similar BE rims that are 21" overall diameter, as these are an obsolete size for which tyres are not available.
